Ready to Begin Your Story?
Before recording your 5-minute video, take a moment to read these Frequently Asked Questions. They’ll help you prepare your best submission and step confidently into the What’s Your Story Africa movement.
1. What is the 5-minute video submission about?
This is the first step towards joining the What’s Your Story Africa Pan-African movement — a growing community of storytellers using their voices to inspire change across the continent.
Your 5-minute video helps us understand who you are, what you care about, and how you use your voice to create impact. It’s your introduction into a network of passionate Africans shaping conversations that matter.
2. What should I talk about in the video?
Choose a topic you’re passionate about — something that comes naturally to you. You don’t have to know everything, but you should feel confident you’re above average in it. You could talk about: Sports|Fitness|Wellness|Health|Education|Money|Tech|Gaming|Agriculture|Travel|Tourism|Culture|Food|Cars|Social Issues|Entrepreneurship|Farming|Innovation|Climate Change| Economy| Faith|Family|Spirituality|Education
Basically, any subject you love discussing naturally, in the language you’re most comfortable. English, Swahili, Sheng, et al
3. Who will be watching my video?
Every video is personally reviewed by Catherine Mwangi, founder of What’s Your Story Africa, with over 25 years of experience leading award-winning TV stations and moderating global conversations. Each submission is watched with care to understand your voice and potential.
4. Do I need professional recording equipment?
No. A smartphone camera is fine. Make sure the picture is clear, and your voice is audible. We care about your message and delivery, not production polish.
5. How long should the video be?
Keep it to five minutes or less. Be focused and engaging — five minutes is enough when you speak with clarity.
6. Where do I upload my video?
After registration and payment you’ll receive a private upload link by email. Use that link to submit your video before the deadline.
7. Can I submit on behalf of someone else?
Yes. If you’re submitting or paying for another person or a group of people (siblings, students, mentees, etc.), alert us on our official WhatsApp number / email; and we’ll advise on how to submit their videos
8. What happens after I submit my video?
Catherine will review your submission and send personalized feedback. After that feedback you’ll be presented the opportunity to join for the ‘Master Your Story’ course, a guided cohort experience and Pan-African community of storytellers who will develop their craft together.
9. Is the video judged or graded?
No — it’s not a competition. The video is an application tool that helps us understand your strengths, clarity, and readiness. We value authenticity, clarity, and potential over perfection.
10. What if I’m shy or nervous on camera?
That’s normal. Speak as if you’re talking to one person who cares about what you’re saying. Passion and honesty come through even with nerves — and confidence grows with practice which is what our next steps will focus on.
